What is Temporary Cover?
We offer two types of temporary cover: cover for your own car and cover to share a friend or family’s car. If you’re sharing a car, the car needs to have an annual insurance policy in place already. You can buy anything from 1 hour up to 30 days. You may need to be added onto a family member’s policy for an airport run, or you may need to cover your new car before getting annual insurance; these are just a couple of ways you could use Veygo.
I want to share a car, but isn’t this dual insurance?
No. Dual insurance is when the same person has two active polices on the same vehicle. As long as you’re not named on the car owner’s policy, or any other policy covering the car you want to share, you will not affect the existing cover and it won’t be dual insurance.
I want to share a car, but will it affect the car owner’s no claims bonus if I claim?
No. Our Temporary Cover provides you with your own separate policy for the car. Any claims you make won’t affect the car owner’s No Claims Bonus, so they don’t need to declare it on their insurance.
How much is the excess?
The accidental damage excess on most Temporary Cover policies is set at £750 and some customers can choose a lower excess of £250, depending on the policy details. The excess for a windscreen claim can be found in your policy schedule, within your account.
Are there any restrictions?
In short, yes. Here's our basic age criteria...
· We cover drivers with full GB licences from the age of 17
· If you're 17 -21 and looking for cover on your own car, you need to have held your licence for at least 6 months
· There's no minimum licence duration if you are borrowing a friend or family's car
· ...For cars... we can't cover cars which are over 30 years old - sorry!
As well as these basic age requirements, we have underwriting criteria, which is made up of lots of different factors. It's this criteria that works out your price and if you're eligible for cover when you quote.
How does the no claims discount work?
As soon as you’ve driven 30 days claim free with our Temporary Cover (excluding Learner Driver) to reward you for your driving, you’ll automatically receive a discount inbuilt to your quotes.
How do I extend my policy? Although we don’t currently offer policy extensions, you can quickly take out a new policy online. We save your details to make the process even easier the second time around – just make sure you log in first!

Why have I been declined cover?
We would love to cover everyone but unfortunately, our underwriting criteria means that sometimes we can’t offer insurance to somebody. We can’t give specifics, but it’s made up of lots of different factors, like car, age, experience and much more. Also, we don’t offer cover for outside of Great Britain, drivers with a non-GB licence or non-GB residents. Our Customer Care team won’t be able to help you with this either, sorry.
Why isn’t my policy showing on MID?
It takes up to a week for the cover to show on the Motor Insurance Database. There should already be an annual insurance policy on the car if it’s a Learner Driver policy or if you’re sharing a friend or family member’s car. This is a policy and if there isn’t an annual policy in place, your cover won’t be valid. Please get in touch at contact@veygo.com to cancel.
Can I use Veygo to drive abroad?
No, your policy is only valid in England, Scotland and Wales.
